Northern California Leaders & Education Advocates Support Prop 2
Redding, CA - In Northern California, elected leaders and education advocates join together in support of Proposition 2, the school bond measure on the November ballot that will help make the most urgent repairs and upgrades in our local public schools.
“The need for upgrades and modernizations to schools in northern, rural California is acute, which is why I’m proud to join in support of Proposition 2, because it will help ensure our students have the learning environments they need to thrive,” said Assemblymember Megan Dahle (R-Bieber). “In Shasta County alone, there are 10 local school bonds on the ballot to help address issues like mold, asbestos, lead pipes and to help build new facilities for the region’s growing number of students to learn. Prop 2 will help maximize funding for these school districts with strong accountability, public disclosure, and independent audits to ensure our schools actually get fixed.”
Proposition 2 includes funding to support schools that are impacted by natural disasters such as earthquakes and wildfires, providing funding for temporary classrooms along with electrical updates and modernized HVAC systems.
“The kids in rural California deserve equitable school facilities to ensure healthy, safe and productive learning environments,” said Trinity County Superintendent of Schools, Fabio Robles “The future of our state will be impacted by the education opportunities for all kids in the system and that includes those that grow up in counties with a limited tax base like Trinity. Prop 2 prioritizes communities like ours, which is a new feature in a statewide school facilities bond.”
“Proposition 2 provides the resources so that we can upgrade our aging campuses with equitable facilities that meet the baseline needs to ensure our kids are ready for the future. In a fire prone area like ours, it also means that in the unfortunate event a school is damaged by wildfire, there is funding to provide alternate learning spaces to limit school year disruptions,” added Robles"
The Trinity County Office of Education is one of dozens county offices of education and school districts across the state that have endorsed Proposition 2. A full list can be found here.
